Common Questions

Question #1: At what age can children start martial arts?
Our experience has shown that children ages five and up will be able to take the greatest advantage from Taekwondo classes. If you are unsure your child is ready, or if your child has special needs, please call us for a free trial lesson. Master Jung will recommend the best course of action for you to take with your child.

Question #2: Does it increase aggressiveness?
Absolutely not! Your child will be taught from the first lesson that a true "Taekwondo kid" never misuses their martial arts skills. Throughout their training, they will be reminded that being physically and mentally tough doesn't allow one to be tough with others. Instead, Taekwondo students are expected to be humble, courteous, respectful and careful about when and where they practice their skills. Our instructors will continually educate your child that Taekwondo is a form of exercise and self improvement, not a tool for bullying or intimidation.

Question #3: Can I attend martial art classes with my child?
Definitely! In fact many families are finding Taekwondo to be the perfect family activity, combining an exciting workout with a new learning experience. At NH Kicks, your entire family will have the choice of attending their children's or adults' class separately or coming together as a group to our family classes. Either way you'll have a great time and create a special family bond. I'm sure that the more you read about our program, the more excited you'll be about getting involved.

Question #4: Am I too old to take classes?
Absolutely not! The benefits of Taekwondo are available to anyone regardless of age or condition. Age is a state of mind if the body is maintained. Studies show people over 40 who start practicing Martial Arts improve many aspects of their health including both physical and mental. Taekwondo can help you to regain, maintain, and increase strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility.

Question #5: Am I too out of shape to take classes?
Absolutely not! Everyone has to start somewhere. Our program is guaranteed to improve your fitness level! Our classes are fun and energizing and you will never be bored. Your program can be individualized to suit your situation. You progress at a pace consistent with your ability and level of fitness.

Question #6: What is Taekwondo and how is it different from other martial arts?
The different martial arts all originated in different countries thousands of years ago as forms of self-defense. For example, Karate comes from Japan, Kung Fu from China and Taekwondo is native to Korea. In terms of martial art techniques, Taekwondo emphasizes kicks more than other martial arts, making it ideal for improving your child's strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. Here at NH Kicks, Master Jung is a Master from South Korea who teaches Korean culture as part of the core curriculum.

Question #7: How much does it cost?
At NH Kicks we want to make our program affordable for Families. We do not require long term contracts. We charge a monthly rate based on number of classes per week and the number of participating family members. Some additional costs may include competition sparring gear, uniforms, and testing. We always offer new students a free class to try out our program.
